Around the World New Year's Eve Table 2014...
People often ask me, "how do you come up with your designs?"
The answer in a nutshell is simple... I envision my design, I see it in my head, and it grows from there.
I could write a very long post about how I dreamed up the design for my 2014 NYE table,
however, I have many pictures to share, so I will keep the explanation to a minimum.
This design came about when I envisioned creating plates that represent the coming of the new year in various parts of the world. So, without a detailed explanation, just excerpts here and there, I will show you through pictures how my NYE 2014 table came about.
This was the start of my vision...
A blank canvas that would eventually be transformed into
my "Around the World New Year's Eve Table"
A little creativity, and my vision
began to take form...
I decided to add a little whimsy,
and these adorable straws gave my design just that...
after all, who say's you can't sip champs with a straw?
It doesn't get more whimsical than that.
The plastic champagne flutes dressed with sparkly black ribbons,
and 2015 flags are a fun addition to the table...
Two of my Christmas mantel owls make a reappearance at New Year's Eve,
and keep the whims going...
and keep the whims going...
If you look closely, I didn't add a tablecloth to the design...
instead, I went with a long piece of Christmas tree ribbon wrap, and it works just fine.
Party Hats...
The party hats were my favorite piece to create aside from the plates...
The gold garland pieces at the top were a last minute idea,
but I'm so glad I added it as it gives the cone hats the right amount of sparkle.
I used patterned fabric to cut out the various clocks,
and hot glued them to the paper cone. I used one of my favorite baskets and dressed it up with a sparkly black ribbon to hold the party hats at the table...
The Centerpiece...
I wanted to keep the focus on the plates, so I didn't want to
overpower the table with an over- the- top centerpiece...I kept it simple
by using my Pottery Barn tall taper candle holder to add height to the design. I added
some of the same Christmas tree wrap I used for the table runner inside the glass taper.
My daughter found these wonderfully tall New Year's noise makers
while we shopped at the party store today. For some added fun to the centerpiece,
we purchased some paper hats, and added festive beads around the chandi.
A little recycled goodie from my Christmas decor...
If you saw my New York City themed dining room tree,
you will recognize my version of the "Waterford Crystal" ball dropping from the top of Time's Square at midnight.. or should I say in this case, dropping from the top of my dining room chandi.
Yes, I used my tree topper from my NYC themed tree as part of my centerpiece design.
My little Martha Stewart in the making did such a great job picking out
these tall noise makers... they are just perfect for the centerpiece...
My simple Pottery Barn Hemstitch napkins in khaki
worked well with the overall color palette of the table...
they seem to pick up the gold tones just perfectly...
A little festive tag adds that personal touch...
some fun shimmery accents...
And finally...
The piece that ties my "Around the world" New Year's Eve 2014 Table together...
The dining room chalkboard with a French inspired message for the new year!
And finally, my vision for my 2014 New Year's Table..
From a blank canvas- to these adorable little plates...
From Paris to Los Angeles, and everywhere in between,
My wish for you and yours is for a year filled with beauty, light, and love...
Cheers to 2015!
Happy New Year!
Bonne Annee!
